Privacy Policy

Game Outside · Effective 5 September 2026

The short version: Game Outside does not collect your personal information. There is no account to create, no sign-in, no ads and no tracking. Your photos and your game history stay on your device. The one thing the app does send us is which challenge cards families report as not working, so we can fix them.

Who we are

Game Outside is a family game published by Inside the Rink. You can reach us at[email protected].

Information we collect

Nothing that identifies you. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, or any other personal detail. The app has no accounts and no sign-in of any kind, so there is nothing for us to hold.

There is one exception, and it is the whole of it. When a grown-up taps “this challenge doesn't work here”, the app sends us four things:

  • Which challenge card it was.
  • Which park's set of cards it came from, if you were playing at one.
  • Whether the card was skipped or marked as not working.
  • The reason, chosen from a short fixed list — it isn't here, not safe today, too hard, already did it, or other. You cannot type anything, so nothing you write can reach us.

That is sent without any account, name or device identifier attached, so we cannot tell which reports came from the same phone or the same family. Like any app that talks to a server, the connection itself carries your device's IP address; we do not store it alongside the report or use it to identify anyone.

We use it for one thing: finding cards that are wrong. Parks change — a tower closes, a bridge is rebuilt, a farm stops keeping animals — and a family standing there is the only way we find out. It is never sold, never shared with anyone else, and never used for advertising.

What stays on your device

The app saves a few things locally so the game works and remembers where you were. All of it lives on your phone, in the app's own storage, and none of it is transmitted to us:

  • Any photos you choose to take during a game. These never leave your phone.
  • Your finished and in-progress adventures.
  • Your settings, such as the light or dark appearance.

Deleting the app removes all of it. We cannot recover it, because we never had it.

Photos and the camera

If you take a photo during a game, it is saved on your device and shown back to you in that adventure. Photos are never uploaded, never seen by us, and never shared with anyone. The app asks for camera and photo library access only when you choose to add a photo, and the game is fully playable if you decline.

Network connections

The app connects to the internet to download new and updated challenge cards and locations, and app updates. That part is a one-way read — the app asks for content and receives it, and nothing about you, your device, or your game is sent along with the request.

The one thing the app sends in the other direction is a report that a challenge card did not work, described above. It goes out the next time the app opens with a signal, so a report made in a park with no reception is not lost.

As with any internet request, our content provider (Supabase) and our update provider (Expo) receive the network information inherent to delivering a response, such as an IP address, and may retain it briefly in operational logs. We do not use this to identify or track anyone, and we do not combine it with anything else.

Once content has been downloaded, the game works offline.

Children's privacy

Game Outside is designed to be played by families, with a parent or guardian running the game. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

The card reports described above are the only thing the app sends us, and they are deliberately built so that they cannot carry personal information about a child. There is no account, no name, no device identifier and no location beyond which park's set of cards was in play. The reason is picked from a fixed list rather than typed, so a child cannot write anything into a report. We use the reports solely to keep the game's content correct.

Marking a card as not working is an action a grown-up takes while running the game. If you would rather send nothing at all, don't use it — the game plays exactly the same either way.

No advertising, no tracking, no selling

There are no advertisements in Game Outside. There are no third-party advertising networks, no analytics services, and no tracking technologies. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, because we do not have any. The card reports are not personal information and are not used for advertising, profiling, or anything other than fixing the cards.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, or delete personal information a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to request. If you would like the data on your own device removed, delete the app.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes what it collects, we will update this page and change the effective date above before that version is released. If a change were ever material, we would say so in the app.
