Underfoot. A large trail system through forest, with climbs to rocky vistas. Supervised swimming at Pearce Lake in summer.
Parking. Free, with free parking at 177 Forest Street in Saugus. There is a second entrance at 100 Hemlock Road in Wakefield, closer to Pearce Lake Beach. Sunrise to sunset.
Rumney Marsh Reservation

Underfoot. Flat and open salt marsh along the river inlet. Good for birdwatching, fishing and boating.
Parking. Free, with parking at 111 Ballard Street and 114 Bristow Street, both in Saugus. Dawn to dusk.
Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site

A whole seventeenth-century ironworks rebuilt on the river — waterwheels, a blast furnace, a forge, and bellows eighteen feet long that blew the air into it.
