Fairhaven, Massachusetts
Fort Phoenix
One of the smallest state parks in Massachusetts and one of the most crammed: the stone remains of a Revolutionary War fort, a beach below it, and a hurricane barrier you can walk out along into the Atlantic.
Researched from this park's own sources. Nobody's walked it yet.
Read this bit out
This fort was built to guard the harbour, and the cannon on it pointed out at the water because that is where trouble came from. Look the other way and you will see a long low wall running right across the mouth of the harbour. That is a hurricane barrier, and it was built for the same reason the fort was โ something dangerous comes in off that ocean, and people keep building things to stop it.
