The Three Sisters
Three lighthouses standing in a clearing in the woods, half a mile from the sea they were built for. Sailors called them the Three Sisters because from out on the water they looked like women in white dresses wearing black hats.

These three used to stand on the cliff, looking out to sea, so ships could tell this stretch of coast from any other. Then the cliff started falling into the ocean, which is what cliffs here do. The lighthouses were moved back. The sea came again. Two of them were sold off — for three dollars and fifty cents, the pair — and somebody joined them together with a room in the middle and lived in them. It took until 1975 to get all three back, and now they stand here in the woods, in exactly the order they always stood in, a long walk from the water that chased them.
