Great Brook Farm State Park

A working dairy farm with more than twenty miles of trails running out from it, past stone walls, seventeenth-century cellar holes and ponds worth walking to. The dairy tour is free and runs at weekends.

Parking. The lot is at 165 North Road, by the farm. $3 a car from April 1 to November 30, whatever your plates say; free the rest of the year.
The Greenough Land

Two hundred and forty acres of upland and wetland woods around a twenty-one-acre pond that averages barely two feet deep, with fields, rock outcrops and a brook running through the middle of it.

Underfoot. A loop of the property is a good hour, through forest, past water and out along the fields. Wooded uplands with rock outcrops, wooded wetlands, and Page's Brook running through. It joins the Great Meadows refuge next door, and a much longer walk can be made that way.
Parking. Free town conservation land. Two parking lots, both on Maple Street: the south lot just south of the Brook Street junction, the north lot just north of the East Street junction. There is a trail map on the kiosk in the north lot.
The Towle Land

A hundred and twelve acres of rolling field and rocky outcrop with woods and streams behind it, a small pond made by a dam, and bobolinks nesting in the open grass every spring.

Underfoot. Rolling fields with rocky outcrops in the northwest, reached from the lot by the main path heading southwest across the dam. The rest is wooded and hilly with swamps and streams. Trails are signed by the Carlisle Trails Committee.
Parking. Free town conservation land. The main entrance and parking lot are on Westford Road and hold about twenty cars. There is a second marked trail entrance on Bingham Road with no parking.
